A Silent Disco

I just saw this on Martha Stewart Weddings and think it's kinda brilliant (especially with our Wine Country noise restrictions).

You've said your I do’s, and now it’s time to get down to the seriously fun business of celebrating your newlywed status. The only thing getting between you and a night everyone will remember? A noise ordinance, curfew, or neighbor forcing you to put a damper on the decibel levels at your event. Enter the “silent disco,” a phenomenon that has grown out of music festivals and the club scene, where attendees don wireless headphones and listen to music broadcast through a radio transmitter.

“It’s been pretty revolutionary for us because we have the 10 p.m. amplified noise curfew in Napa and Sonoma, so it lets us continue the party without having to move locations or move indoors,” says wedding planner Jenna Lam of Jenna Lam Events.

Think the concept sounds strange? “The funny thing about it is that the minute someone puts on the headphones, it’s like they think they’re invisible,” Lam adds. “You’ll see someone who was previously sipping a drink nervously in the corner while the band was playing now singing out loud and dancing like a crazy person at the silent disco.”

Beautiful wedding (with their dog!) in the cave at Calistoga Ranch

Ann-Catherine and Brandon had a fairy-tale wedding this weekend. The cave at Calistoga Ranch has always been one of my favorite reception venues, but to see it as a ceremony site was magical. Kate Stanley Designs and Karin at Clever Girl Consulting did an incredible job creating this dreamy look. And the fabulous Julie Morgan did the perfect hair/makeup for our adorable bride. And look! Her Amsale gown has pockets! I know it's only February, but this might be my favorite dress for 2015.

Backyard Wedding | Danville | Retro

This beautiful day in Danville brought me in touch with Julanne and Michael.  They were decked out in retro dress, with all of the accessories.  I couldn't get enough of the headwear that day, and the bride wore a headpiece that stole the show.  Julanne also wore some incredible pearls that complimented the hundreds of white lights around the venue.

Engagement Session | Oakland | Temescal | Waterfront

This engagement session gave me the opportunity to photograph my favorite part of the Bay Area, my hometown of Oakland.  Bianca and Debbie requested several locations around Temescal and the waterfront shore to capture some really industrial shots.

Swedenborgian Church | San Francisco Wedding

Reagan and Kent chose the Swedenborgian Church for their beautiful nuptials.  I love evening weddings like this as well, and this winter wedding had all the color and beauty of the holidays.
This was an intimate ceremony, with close family and friends surrounding the happy couple.

I'm going to be a guest speaker at SF State!

I just got a call from my good friend (and amazing wedding planner), Michelle Martinez from Allure Consulting. She teaches a Certified Wedding Planner course at SF State and asked me to be a guest speaker next month! We're going to discuss the importance of beautiful imagery in social media. So fun!

She also reminded me that she offers "month-of" coordination for weddings. Brides... if you're feeling a little overwhelmed and need some help, give her a call! You'll be happy you did.

Published in Today's Bride!

I am always thrilled and honored when a magazine as fabulous as Today's Bride publishes my photography. The new issue is here and is chock-full of amazing ideas and real weddings (which I love!).

I helped photographed this wedding (with fabulous photographers (and good friends), Alisha and Brook Todd) and the amazing planner extraordinaire, Duncan Reyes at the super-hip and cool Hotel Shattuck Plaza in Berkeley. Enjoy!

Sunset Beach Engagement | Santa Cruz

Our wonderful couple, Christina and Ian, joined me in Watsonville for an engagement shoot.  They chose Sunset Beach as a setting, and we were greeted by some birds that stole the show.  I can't wait to photograph these two again, and I only have to wait until May!

Mountain Wedding | Woodside | The Mountain Terrace

Amy and Shane gave me the honor of capturing their one-of-a-kind wedding day.  The Mountain Terrace provided some jaw-dropping scenery, including a spectacular flower petal aisle that guided our gorgeous bride to her handsome groom.  So many unique, handmade details added to the fantastic design of their reception area as well.  Happiness and warmth surrounded these two, and photographing them was a joy!
